What can you use the app for?

Listgeeks gives users a place to create and share lists. The user can create a list on almost anything. To get started, users can drag and drop items from existing lists to add individual items to their own. The user can also add unique items by typing them into the space provided. Doing so creates a new entry for that item and adds it to the list. Listgeeks operates as a social platform, so users are encouraged to interact and follow each other’s lists. When a user discovers a list they find interesting, they can click on the creator’s name to visit their profile. The profile presents all the Listgeeks lists that user put together along with a total count of how many other users are following them, how many users they are following and how many lists they have created. The user can visit their dashboard area to see comments on their lists as well as activity feeds tracking the users they have decided to follow.

What is the history and popularity of the app?

Listgeeks was built by a small group of people who claim to be list-obsessed. They come from Berlin, Hamburg and NewYork City. The goal was to create a website that allows users to create any kind of list imaginable while socializing through their lists. The application is currently in a beta status.

What are the differences to other apps?

Lists are not a new thing on the web, but they are a very popular item for some users. Listgeeks stands out because it gives the user total freedom in creating their lists. The application also implements a layer of social networking by encouraging users to interact and follow one another. The lists gives users a way to find others that share similar interests and the site provides a dashboard area so users can see their followed users’ recent activity, somewhat like a Facebook feed.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The Listgeeks website has a clean, almost plain design. Given the nature of the site, this choice of black, white and grey color scheme works rather well. The simple logo features the site’s name with two columns of grey bars, side by side, representing the lists users can create. Drop down lists at the top of the page allow users to sort existing lists by staff picks, popular and latest. Visitors can also sort through users by latest and most active.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can join the Listgeeks community by clicking the black “Sign Up” link in the upper, right hand corner of the page. Doing so takes the user to the registration form which requires a username, email address, password and successful completion of the Captcha code provided at the bottom of the form.

What does it cost to use the application?

Listgeeks is a fun, social website that does well when more users sign up. That being said, the site further encourages users participation by offering membership for free. There are no subscription fees or other charges for creating an account. The user can create as many lists as they want and are given access to all current features.
